  1. Beautiful photos. I hadn’t heard of this tree before, and you sent me off into a little linguistic rabbit hole, but I got a little rabbit out of it. This chaste seems to be related to the French word for chestnuts, châtaigne. The caret over a vowel in French often indicates that the word has been derived from an older form where the vowel was followed by an ess, in this case chastaigne. That entered English, and was changed to chaste or chest (nut)!
