Lens-Artists Photo Challenge#99: Old and New

This week, we invite you to share “Old and New” with your photos and stories.

It is always fascinating to tour a city where you see a mix of history, architecture, and modern buildings. London is one of those cities. You can admire the hundreds of years old cathedrals, monuments, and palaces, when you look or walk a little further, you see 21st Century modern buildings standing in front of you. Below is the London Tower (Re-built in 1285), surrounded by new modern architecture.

The Tower Bridge was built between 1886 and 1894. Walking through this historic bridge, you can also enjoy the 21st Century buildings along the Thames River bank.

In Cairo, we had a chance to watch a young college student demonstrating how the ancient Egyptians made paper using banana leaves thousands of years ago.

Here, an Egyptian man wearing a traditional robe enjoys his morning coffee on his modern motorcycle.

Needless to say, there were tons of treasures in the Egyptian National Museum. These sandals are very much like the sandals displayed in our shoe stores, but these are 3,000 to 4,000 years old.

Our tour guide made a remark, “As I have said many times, everything we have today is from ancient Egypt. Here is another example, we created WiFi 4,000 years ago.” He pointed at this wall carving. 🙂

 

Time travel in Egypt:

This week I am reading “What the Wind Knows” by Amy Harmon. It’s a fascinating novel featuring a young woman in 2001 who time travels to 1921 in Ireland, “… falling through time and into 1921 as an odd way of saving myself from something in 2001… Now I’m here, it’s 1921, and I don’t  know how to go back home.”

We look forwarding to seeing your “Old and New” interpretation. It can be the contrast of architecture, fashion, collections, treasures… in one photo or multiple photos.
