Second Best Shots (S. California)

Laura (eljaygee in pursuit of the photo) is starting a cool theme — “Second Best Sunday“.

I can relate to how she defines the second best. In fact, my files are overloaded with “neither technically well–crafted nor spellbinding…” photos. Nonetheless, I like some of these shots simply because they hold special moments or stories. There are a few examples.

The photo below was taken at the South California beach. It was the evening before the 4th of July, the beach and the beach walking trail were packed with young and old with different ethnicities. All were having a relaxing, fun time.

Here, you see youngsters were playing volleyball and an American flag was standing right next to the sun. These two photos seem to speak of the 4th of July.

Beautiful sunset and California palm trees always make me smile.

Laura is a photographer, yet she thinks “a second best shot that deserves more than a second look.” If you want to join the theme, click here.

Photos were taken with my iPhone 6+ 🙂

Thank you for visiting!

  1. Same here, Amy: I have lots of pictures that are average at best, and I keep them as reminders of vacations or special occasions, just for myself. Quite often I take pictures not with the aim of publishing them, but just as a “documentary” for myself.
    Have a wonderful week,
P.S.: Did you have a thunderstorm, too? We had a very heavy one in the early morning hours, with a real downpour, and it’s still thundering and raining some. Ever so welcome!

    • Thank you, Pit. I, too, enjoy taking photos as to document for myself. 🙂
Wow, I love the thunderstorm! It started at around 6:30 and the rain is still going on, but much lighter. Ever so welcome! 🙂 🙂

  2. I enjoyed the photos Amy, and agree with you on photos that have impact without being perfect. The spirit in the SC holiday eve photo is wonderful, and both show warmth and fun and enjoyment. I hope your week ahead is a joy….

  3. your second one is best of all 🙂 thanks for the shout out and link up Amy – these ‘second best’ shots are the ones that loiter between the trash and the printer – the almost photo fails that are heaps better than second rate 🙂

will be digging more up for next Sunday – see you there?
