WEEK 35 – From Above

A magnificent view from the above at Bandelier, New Mexico:

The photo below was taken outside of the Reagan Library. The building rests on a majestic hill overlooking the breathtaking views of Simi Valley, CA.

An unforgettable view over the El Tajo gorge from the Puente Nuevo:

  1. Looks amazing but that last shot worries me a bit – I’m not very good with vertical heights. It’s very annoying but at least I understand the condition more easily (perhaps I should say accept rather than understand) when I am actually there, at a real height. What I don’t understand is why I get a sense of anxiety etc. when I look at movies or even in this case, a still image. It’s weird! It’s still a great shot anyway 😉

    • Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I had the anxiety with height many years ago, then I got over with it. I was able to walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge and look over the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge the second time we visited there. The El Tajo gorge is pretty wide at the top, and it got real narrow and deep.
Glad you like the shot. 🙂

        • I have wondered myself. I remember when I walked across the Capilano Suspension bridge, I tried hard to focus on the people who walked ahead of me rather than looking down. When I walked back from the other side of the bridge, I was able to stand still for a few times and enjoy the views in the middle of the bridge. Later of day, I even walked through the skywalk which allows you to see hundreds of yards below, the entire time. It helped break some of my fear. Hope this helps. 🙂

          • So basically I should face my fears head on – probably the best advice anyone could give and I will keep on trying. Here’s to my next suspension bridge or even just a castle tower – cheers and thank you 😄

            • As I walked to the middle of the bridge, I had much confidence. But, I couldn’t make one single step the first time when we visited there, which was a couple of years before this trip. 🙂

  2. Fantastic photos, Amy, and a pleasing variety of “above” images. Interesting to see the Reagan Library has such a commanding view, and the steep El Tajo gorge photo is really wonderful. But my favorite: oh how I love Bandolier, and your photo here really shows the supreme natural beauty of this place.
