Sally’s Mobile Phone Challenge: Chihuly’s Basket Series

“I had seen some beautiful Indian baskets at the Washington State Historical Society, and I was struck by the grace of their slumped, sagging forms. I wanted to capture this in glass.”  — Dale Chihuly

With this series Chihuly liberated the glassblowing process from the restrictions of symmetry, allowing glass to respond naturally to gravity.

Chihuly’s basket series marked a turning point in which he freed himself from the tradition of symmetry in glass blowing.

In response to Sally’s Mobile Photo Challenge for this week is challenger’s choice.

Happy Tuesday!

  1. Amy, his work is a tribute to nature. I’ve seen much of it, but more of the larger pieces and ones that hang. They are usually placed where light can show off their variations and colors. It’s hard to capture the qualities of the glass, but you’ve done it nicely. Happy Photo Challenge.

    • Thank you for your feedback, Sally! I wasn’t sure iPhone was able to capture these beautiful glass works because of the lights from the top and bottom of the display table. It really did a good job. 🙂
