3 Days, 3 Quotes (Day I): John Muir

 _W5A0301

I captured this scene while taking an early morning walking along the Bow River Trail on my last day in Banff last week.

I did a “3 days, 3 quotes” series a few weeks ago. But, my dear blog friend Perpetua offers me another opportunity. I’m delighted.

I only went out for a walk, and finally concluded to stay out till sundown,

for going out, I found, was really going in.

~ John Muir (April, 1838 – December, 1914)

Perpetua’s (the Seeker) posts always get me to think a little deeper… Thank you!

Feel free to share your favorite quotes and photos.

Notes:

John Muir was a Scottish-American naturalist, author, environmental philosopher and early advocate of preservation of wilderness in the United States.

During his lifetime John Muir published over 300 articles and 12 books. He co-founded the Sierra Club, which helped establish a number of national parks after he died and today has over 2.4 million members.

Muir exalted wild nature over human culture and civilization, believing that all life was sacred. Turner describes him as “a man who in his singular way rediscovered America. . . . an American pioneer, an American hero.”
