The Metropol Parasol, Spain

Metropol Parasol in the old town of Sevilla is a gigantic, undulating canopy shaped like a five waffle patterned structures. The structure consists of six parasols, which provides nice shades for the area during hot summer, locals call “the mushrooms”.

Take an elevator, you can get the top to enjoy a loop walk along the terrance and the night scene of Sevilla.

The construction began on June 26, 2005, with an estimated cost of 50 million euros and a projected to complete in June 2007. Due to some problems of the design, it didn’t finish until 2011, and the total cost was 100 million euros.

It has dimensions of 150 by 70 metres (490 by 230 ft) and an approximate height of 26 metres (85 ft), claims to be the largest wooden structure in the world.

Here is a twist: …until 1990, when the city decided to construct underground parking with space for a market on top. However, in the midst of construction, ruins dating to Roman and Andalusian eras were discovered, and construction was frozen after an expenditure of 14 million euros.
