GGG: A glimpse of the glossy glass paperweight collection
Glass paperweight collection in the Art of Institute of Chicago:
These antique paperweights were from the 1930s.
According to the Chicago Tribune, Arthur Rubloff donated his entire collection to the Art Institute. There are now more than 2,000 pieces in the collection, with more than 1,500 of them from Rubloff.
Arthur Rubloff was the most influential real estate developers in Chicago, he died in 1986 at the age of 83… A well-known philanthropist, Rubloff gave away millions of dollars for educational and cultural projects. In 1984, he became the biggest single contributor to the Art Institute of Chicago, donating $6 million and 130 bronze statues valued in the millions. He also contributed $5 million to Northwestern University for a new library and $5 million to the University of Chicago hospital complex for an intensive care unit. — Chicago Tribute
