Travel Theme: Green
Ailsa’ Travel Theme for this week is green.
The canopy roads in Tallahassee are very scenic drives, approx 65 miles. Huge moss-draped live oaks, sweet gums, and hickory trees cast their shade over the roads:
–In 1996, these roads won the nation’s top 10 most scenic drives. The Meridian Road was originated in 1824. It’s always packed with traffic, not possible to take a decent picture of the road while driving. I was happy to get this beautiful post card
–Breckenridge park in San Antonio is a well-designed park. This 343-acres park has trails for walking, biking, and jogging. Kids love the zoo and the miniature train. During Easter week, the city provides free family camping with lots of alive musics and fun activities for kids.
There are a couple of awesome green posts you don’t want to miss:

It’s so perverse that a stretch of that wondrous canopy road has become so popular a tourist attraction that none of the tourists who drive it now get to experience its’ pristine remoteness. I began worrying about the future health of the trees with all those emissions belching out their toxic gases and sooty particles. I’m so glad to have seen even a postcard of it. Just imagine driving (in one’s buggy), or riding down that shady stretch of road – the smell of the trees and the damp, the sounds of the birds, the companionable clop and clatter of one’s horses hooves … ah, what a grand journey that must have been!

You’re right, the toxic gases is not good for the environment. Sadly to say, I did not hear birds last time when we drove there, probably the heavy traffic drove them away… I even dreamed about driving the canopy road a few times, since I’m far away from Tallahassee.

A couple of real gorgeous spots. Sadly very few things stay the same.

It is… We saw miles of pine trees were turning brown on the Rockies, due to the acid rain…

These are beautiful photos! And I love the name, Sweet Gums. Those trees in Breckenridge Park always provide so much wonderful shade on a hot summer day.

I love the trees in the park, a wonderful place that one can sit by the river under the trees and take a break

What a wonderful drive it must have been before the traffic – such a lovely pic, Amy

We almost went to San Antonio for Spring Break. I haven’t heard of Breckenridge park but thanks to you, I will definitely check it out. From afar, it reminded me of the images I saw of Barton Spring’s in Austin. I’m excited to check the hill country this Spring and Summer. I will check out the Easter event too. Crossing my fingers I’mm off work. Thanks.

Breckenridge park is nice, it has a zoo, train, trail, river, and a nature garden, a very pretty and relaxing park. Mid of the summer can be brutally hot though.
