WPC: Beyond

This week’s Photo Challenge is Beyond

IMG_0001

The narrow cobblestones roads took us back to two thousand years ago, enabling us to have a glimpse of people’s life style before the eruption of 79 AD.

The city had more than 40 bakeries, an amphitheater theatre, elegant homes, brothels and bathhouses, and 130 bars, restaurants, and hotels for 20,000 residents. It also had been a resort for Rome’s distinguished citizens. That is beyond my imagination.

Notes:

  • Greeks settled in the area in the 8th Century BC.
  • Pompeii was rediscovered in the 1600s and excavations began in 1748.
